On 4th Nov, report to school at 7am sharp in PT kit. There will be a bus to bring you guys over to Sarimbun. If your parents are interested in visiting, they can come on 5Dec from 9am to 5pm. there will be an entrance fee of $2 for the visitors.

If you have any questions, you guys can ask me or Yihng. If your parents want to contact the teachers in case of emergencies, their contact numbers and the times they will be in Sarimbun with us are as follows.

Today lemme share with you about the Panther Story

From Albert Nai Sir aka SunBird

Our Panther symbol started way back from 1970s. But we got lost in the midst of 1990s. It was until GauthamaDinesh and myself had been posted there. Then we re-established the symbol again. In the Jungle Book, Mowgli, the Leaping Frog, actually learned from Baghera, the black panther and Baloo, the Bear who taught him the order & laws of the jungle.

It was black as it is the color of superior. The Panther means it is steady when hunting due to its night color of the dark and its vision of the night. Its fast and swift to move. Its fangs are sharp and killing. It means that as panthers, we are steady when doing things that we believe due our vision and motto; "Be Prepared". Fast and ready for action at the callings of our leaders, move like the wind as skills and knowledge will pour to us. Sharp and Killing meaning ourselves are always alert and ready to make the move for the rest to follow. We blended ourselves well with the surrounding and adopts to it as we moved. The Panther was chosen by General Lee to be the animal of our troop.

The word; "中正" is the chinese word for our school as it means our school. The white background means purity. The words in red means the blood of all mankind. We are the few schools that uses chinese words on the scout emblem. As history said, Chung Cheng High (Main) is a Chinese communist school as riots and strikes were lead ed by students of the school.

General Lee also started a few troops in Katong such as Dunman High (Crane) Scout Troop and Tanjong Katong (Seladang) Scout Troop. That's what i have at the moment as I can recall.

You can go ask your Leader, Tah Hong for the part on what did he use during his time in NPC.

Ok..DL here.I somehow tink that the Panther History lacked of something.
The 1970s part about wad led to the Panther as our emblem.I did a research on this part and found something interesting that MAY have a link to the founding of the Scout unit

In the 1970s, there was an island wide hunt for a black panther that escaped from the Mandai zoo, and it was caught at Tanjong Rhu.The distance is very far.Not long after the animal was captured, there were sighting as claimed by some people that they saw the Black Panther spirit at the nearby casuarinas trees.Well its just an assumption that this may have led to the founding of Panther scouts, the dates are almst similar and the one who saw the *spirit* may be the founder?Well its up to you to believe coz its juz a guess from me

End Of Exam

I haven't been updating because my com was down and had to use my sis's com, it will only be fixed after my another sis's GCE 'A' level is over.

Zhe Yuan and Deon will help to update the blog.

I am wondering today why do we celebrate sec 4 graduation when they haven't even take their GCE 'O' level? Not guaranteed everyone in the sec 4 cohort will pass.

Anyway last few months of this year and scouting resumes this saturday.

Question: Ever wonder why time past so fast?
Fong Sin's 'logical' explanation: Because time flies and we only walk. Thats why.

Routine

Term 3 week 9

Almost 3 terms has passed. If you do not know anything, find out from the rest. Every week that has a saturday activity requires a flag staff unless under special circumstances.

You can always go to national libraries and online to search for more information about scouts. They are very helpful and I really mean "VERY HELPFUL" though having a living person to help you is even better but sometimes it is bo bian one. So make use of whatever resources you can find.

Sembawang Cooking 2nd August

2nd August 2008

A bright and sunny day with a bunch of Panther scouts cooking near Sembawang Park. Much more urbanised than I thought it would be. Amazingly, no one burnt their fringe or anything this time. (or any hair as far as I know)

Lessons learnt:

Avoid choosing the bottom of a slope for cooking as it is a place where the roots have less hold on the soil and may be more flooded by water after rain than the land on the higher ground.
Amber has to be sustained.
Do not stand around and idle. DO SOMETHING!
Do not be afraid of attending the fire. Try.
Some vegetatbles are rarely used in soup.
Heat a rock and you can cook on the rock. (Richie's research)

It is a really good experience to cook there because there are no water taps we can use there. We can crack a joke to lighten the mood but it doesn't seems to work on me. Weird.

Most importantly, backwoodsman cooking should focus on the food, not the chopsticks. Shaving chopsticks all day are for "G*** *****s".

To sum it all up, the big gulps were really tasty I don't know why but the clouds that day was really white and fluffy. They looked just like...... erm... clouds. Just kidding. It was good for most, but much hard work is needed to meet the standard.

This saturday a 'fun hunt' is being held in our school. I don't know much but we will not be participating in the hunt itself. Maybe we are hosting it, not too sure. Details are not with me.

Scouts' photos is up for orders now. Approach our treasurer and QM for orders.

Anyone who have sold their donation draw tickets and still have buyers, please contact me. I still have 24 more...

Physical Fitness Test is here; everyone please train up. I cannot say much because my arms not that well trained compared to my legs.

Good news! Finally the POP is here. This means that our current secondary 4 batch will be relieved of their duties and probably going to pause scouting and study for O' level. An early good luck to a noob sec 4. (*Ahem* You know who.)

*Though not completed, it is the only one I find ok. *

There will be a June Camp, on 18-21 june at sarimbun scout campsite. It is a compulsory unit camp and everyone have to attend. Those who cannot make it because of some reasons have to inform your respective Patrol Leaders who will then report to our Senior Patrol Leader. Reply as soon as possible by 27/4/2008. Those who fail to reflect any difficulty and attending this camp by the deadline will be considered able to participate in the camp.

Another thing is that the Catholic Campfire will be postponed to August.

Gan Eng Seng campfire

Gan Eng Seng campfire is next week 5/4/2008 and we will meet at 5:30pm at tiong bahru mrt control station where we will leave the mrt station at 5:40 together. After that, we will have dinner then proceed to the school. After the campfire has ended, an appointed IC will lead you all back to the MRT station and please go straight home after that.

Life is great. Peaceful, calm nothing actually happened this week except I failed a lot of tests... How's your life? Many people gotten sick and didn't come for activities but where are thier MCs? They shall be rightfully punished if they failed to produce a valid excuse.

Sec 3s, if they do not come for twice or more, go find them in the morning, lunch, after school, whenever you can to "talk" to them. I will be calling a few parents if their sons failed to turn up this week.

all scouts have to stay back on the days arranged by ur acting PLs to stay back and do the flagpole.u all have to choose new spars for the flag pole coz it sucks.standard of flagpole is up to the discretion of the acting PLs.date will be arranged and told to u by ur pl every sat after activity(mon latest) so i expect full attendance.if for wadever reason u are unable to come,u will notify ur PL.anybody who tries to pon the flag raising will be dealt with severely.this week's flag raising will be held on thursday,and all of u are expected to fall in by 1430 SHARP.if ur lessons end at 1415,you should report by latest 1440 at the concourse.PLs please inform me via sms about the date for raising flagpole every mon.thank you.

EXCERPT:"Dear fellow scouts,2008 marks the start of the second millennium of scouting.we have just turned 100 years old and this is a remarkable achievement for any organization.we shoudl be proud of this because it shows there must be something unique and valuable in scouting which is valued by so many countries and societies.however we should not assume that there is therefore no need for change.some may assume that if we have done well for a 100 years then we will also do well for the next 100 yearsif we continue to do the same.this is a fallacy and is dangerous.the world of today is very different from the world of yesterday/in fact, the pace of change is now even faster than it was before and so the world of tomorrow is beyond anyone's imagination.are we prepareed for this change?do we welcome and embrace change?let me share with you a story about a cat in an Ashram in India.this cat loves the company of people and so each evening when the priest led his congregation in prayer,the cat would also wander around the prayer hall.the priest felt that the cat was distracting the devotees.so he tied the cat up every evening before the start of the prayers.this practice continued even after the oriest passed away.then one day the cat died too.the temple quickly found a replacement for the cat because everyone thought that tying up a cat during prayers is an integral and important part of evening prayers.the story illustrates a key ingredient or pre-requisite before anyone can even beign to bring about change in any organization or practice.this is the need to examine and understand the rationale or reason behind existing practices.very often we are afraid to challenge existing practices,like tying up the cat in the story,and we just continue doing them even though the circumstances have changed.what is even more dangerous is that we start to create our own reasons for a practice that we do not even understand.my fellow scouts,the word "scout" refers to a person that dares to venture into the unknown and to seek out new adventures and possibilities for his community.the world needs this true scouting spirit more than before because the future is even more uncertain as a result of the rapid changes that are taking place.however,we must be prepared to challenge our present practices and activities,understand them,and then either keep them or throw them away if they are no longer relevant to the present circumstances.only then can we retain the true spirit of scouting and ensure that we will remain as the largest youth movement in the world.thank you and have a meaningful Founder's Day."

Don't quit leh, we can do this together. True, we will suffer, but we can also be able to gain from it. Many generations of scouts have been through these, like my brother. Just continue, you will not regret. You all might say I am brainwashed by Tah Hong they all, I don't give a damn. However, he had proof himself to be worthy of leading us, getting gold for frank cooper sands during his year.

You can either stay on or be a coward who runs away from challenge. The decision is up to you, not your friends.

well guys,here's my first post for u panthers.i shall seperate in a few sentences.2007 has been a wonderful year for us all and thank you all for ur enthusiasm in scouting as well as ur effort.ok,here i go:
FOR SEC 3:
its been nice knowing you guys for 3 years.during this 3 years,i watch u guys grow up and bond with each other.as a friend/brother,i feel happy as i see that when u guys swear,u swear together as a group(as hongliang mentioned,its nan hong's group).as a senior,well...lets just leave it at that.you guys are fun to have around and we(ventures) and entertained by u all,especially nan hong and "law see heng"(its law herng see ignatius,i juz like calling him law see heng).personally,i feel u guys have a lot of potential and will go far in life.well,keep those smiles around and kick the vulgarism away,i also trying to.All the best to you guys!
FOR SEC 2:
well,nothing much to say la.u guys must try and improve lor.henry,for example,must learn to talk more.wei er,come for activity!well,i am quite impressed with some of u guys this year la.you guys are already developing strong bonds,and unhealthy habits(mr zhe yuan,for example).well,i wish u all the best of luck this year,dun screw up,its ur streaming year!

hello everyone haven been update for quite some time cause of some com problem..

okay...the school is making the year magazine and every CCA have to make a page featuring their own CCA
the problem we are lacking of nice pictures to put in..
so if got any nice picture of any campfires (perferably our IGNIS campfire) or some event such as chingay or NDP, please send it to me or hongliang...

btw lunia is really laggy these days and exams are coming
so if you need some relaxation, go play icy tower/ pinball instead..=)

but on this saturday, 1st sept, there will be a campfire at Victoria School
meet at : bedok mrt station
time : 6.00p.m. (DO NOT be late)
attire : full u
we are gg to eat dinner before going to VS so try not to have your dinner before coming...

nxt saturday, 8th sept, (during the holidays) got one activity..
everyone is expected to be present..
yanghao sir is coming down...
you all will probaly be clearing your respective scout standards
